OpacPublic System Preference

Status: unknown
Sponsored by: no-one
Developed by: KohaAloha and CALYX information essentials
Expected for: 2011-04-04
Bug number: Bug 4289
Work in progress repository: No URL given.
Description: We propose the addition of a system preference (OpacPublic) to enable librarians to close the Opac to public browsing.

See also: Bug 4288

OpacPublic: Enable/Disable Koha Opac as Public. Private OPAC requires authentification before accessing the OPAC.

Default value : Enable.

Setting the value to Disable removes the Search bar from the Opac home page so that a user's only option is to log in.

This completes a range of user options for opac presentation:

opac may be searched without logging in however user may log in to access additional features (default behaviour);

opac may be searched without logging in and user has no option to log in (by setting opacuserlogin to 'Don't Allow');

opac may not be searched unless user is logged in (by setting OpacPublic to 'Disable').

This work is further described in Bugzilla (Bug 4288, Bug 4289).

The work is a collaboration between KohaAloha and CALYX information essentials and is sponsored by clients of CALYX.
