History

The plugin system was added to Koha in early 2013, in "Bug 7804 - Add Koha Plugin System".

The term "plugin" is used in a number of different contexts in Koha:

Extra functionality that is packaged into a KPZ file and uploaded through the "Manage plugins" feature under Administration. The present category should only be used for these kinds of plugins.
Template Toolkit plugins that extend the templating system
Helper scripts found in cataloguing/value_builder
