Video conference meeting using Jitsi at https://meet.jit.si/KohaDocumentationMeeting

  • We are using an (open source) video conference platform for the discussion part of this meeting. You don't have to turn your camera on if you prefer not to be seen; but if you are able to use a mic it should make our conversations a lot easier!
  • To join the meeting, click on the meeting link. If you are on a desktop computer, it will open in a browser window; no need to install anything. To join on a mobile device, you will need to download the Jitsi Meet app (from Google Play; from Apple Store).
  • Browsers will ask for permission to use video and audio devices: check or review these settings if you have audio or video issues.
  • Supported browsers | Mobile application

We will use the #koha IRC channel (IRC server irc.oftc.net) to record the meeting minutes, including #info and #action information. Feel free to login there too (if you don't have an IRC client you can use your web browser.)

Updates

Review of action points

  • See previous meeting.
  • Content Development Guide
    • Aude to add a mention of the Google developer documentation style guide and rework section 1. Style guide. DONE
    • David to add what we decided about the FAQ page.
    • Caroline added some instructions to Documentation style guide please comment
  • Philip to start checking how accessible the Koha manual is in terms of colour contrast, font weight, etc.

What the team has been working on

  • Report from Hackfest (Philip, Caroline)

Ongoing projects

  • Automated screenshots (Jonathan, Caroline, Aude) - Bug 34076
  • Re-organising the manual (David Nind) - Bug 32391

Documentation workflow: issues and ideas

  • Koha Manual as a PDF: is it time to officially say goodbye? (Aude / Caroline)
    • The PDF has not been generated "for a while". It came up when Aude tried to close GitLab issue #8.
    • Does anyone know of any people who are missing the Koha Manual being generated as a PDF?
  • MarcEdit sections in the manual should be redone or removed
    • At some point it says the tutorials are done using MarcEdit version 5.2 with Windows XP. MarcEdit is now at 7.6 and I hope no one is using XP anymore!
    • Should tutorials to use another software be in the Koha manual?
  • Indexing of old manuals in search engines - GitLab issue #43

Content Development Guide

Ongoing work to build a Documentation content development guide.

  • Anything recently added to the page that people want to review or discuss?
  • Questions to cover (please add yours too!)
    • Use cases: how can we include more of these to better show how Koha features are used together?
      • Formatting; where to insert them (new chapters or sections needed?)
    • Screenshots
      • Do we need a recommended image size / resolution?
      • Point to guide on how to write good alt text

Anything else

  • Roles for the 24.11 development cycle
  • Move to Mattermost: opportunities and consequences (Aude)
    • Shall we change how we do meeting minutes?
    • Should we be using the Mattermost meeting function in the future?
    • Mattermost Documentation channel
  • Cleaning up the wiki
    • Does anyone already have access to wiki maintenance reports or wants to get access? see Special:DeadendPages for example
    • cait and ashimema are happy to give permissions to them
    • outdated (or redundant) wiki info could stand to be removed. Usually this would be the job of the wiki team and whatever specialists know their way around the topic at hand.
    • Since time seems to be an issue for those groups, should we go ahead and remove those info that are (even for us "non-specialists" at a glance) obviously out of date / redundant?
