Use Case: Serials and Articles

You catalogue serials (magazines, journals) and also some select articles from them. You want borrowers to go from the serial to browse the articles, and from an article to the host serial.

Parent Record Child Record
LDR ///////s////////////////
001 u14841
774 0# _t Title of Child
       _w a6745
LDR ///////a////////////////
001 a6745
773 0# _t Title of Parent
       _w u14841

On the host serial biblio record

  1. Edit the MARC record
  2. Edit the 000 - Leader
  3. Set 7- Bibliographic level to s- Serial
  4. Make sure a control number (001) is defined
  5. (Optional) For each child, add a 774 field with a $w subfield that references the control number (001) of the child, and a $t that references its title.

This should result in Analytics: Show analytics appearing on the record. Following this link should show you all the articles, as created below. Currently Koha doesn't support 774 fields for display.

On the article biblio record

  1. Edit the MARC record
  2. Edit the 000 - Leader
  3. Set 7- Bibliographic level to a- Monographic component part
  4. Set ind1 on the 773 field to '0' (literal '0', not blank)
  5. Set 773$w to the control number (001) of the host serial biblio record
  6. (Optional) put the title of the host record in 773$t and the part/volume/page information in 773$g

This should result in In: <host record name> <volume info> appearing on the record. Following this link should take you to the host record.
